From pen and paper to a ladder that runs itself

Calgary Tennis Club, 9 paź 2026

For years, Calgary Tennis Club (CTC) ran its singles ladder by hand, and it was hard work: matches left unfinished, endless manual updates, and players who were tricky to keep in touch. One season on ClubMatch changed all of that.

"We used to run the ladder with paper and pencil, which was inefficient and time-consuming. Moving to ClubMatch put everything online and automated the process: very little time is needed to manage the ladder, and the ratings data even helps us set up our socials and tournaments." Doug Kozak, General Manager, Calgary Tennis Club

Online and automatic

ClubMatch transformed CTC's manual ladder completely. Everything moved online and now largely runs itself: each round players are matched with someone close to their level, agree a time, play, and enter the score, and the standings update on their own. The club barely has to touch it, yet can still follow every message and result at a glance.

More than a ladder

CTC quickly found that ClubMatch is useful well beyond the ladder itself. The club now uses its player ratings to organize its socials, tournaments and other events, with everyone grouped at the right level, so matches stay competitive and fun rather than lopsided. What began as a way to run the ladder has become a tool the club leans on across its whole program.

The busiest ladder in Canada

The response speaks for itself. This members club in the heart of Calgary drew up to 239 players and more than 1,200 matches in its first season on ClubMatch (May to October 2026), making it the busiest ClubMatch tennis club in Canada by some distance.

Why it works for other clubs

CTC shows what a ladder can do for a club: it takes the manual work off your hands, runs almost entirely by itself, and keeps a competition going all season with very little effort. Instead of maintaining a spreadsheet, the club can put its time into players and events while keeping full oversight of what is happening on the ladder. After a strong first season the demand keeps growing, and CTC is adding a doubles ladder for 2027.
